My name is Mythily, or “Miley” to my friends, and I am a paper artist and origami lover. I firmly believe in the mantra “work on your day job until your night job pays”, and I try my best to keep up with my paper art passions when I am not working my regular job or studying for a career in Social Work. This is my little corner of the Internet to share my designs and curate my work.
Origami and paper crafts are not just hobbies, but activities that connect me to my human essence and help me live a more fulfilled life. Born in Sri Lanka I learned from watching my family and my people the gratifying practice of living through creating, wether it is working the land or weaving tiny baskets out of Palm leaves. Growing up in Toronto I didn’t always take crafts as a serious endeavour like I did as a child, until I discovered origami and re-discovered my abilities as an adult. I came back to crafts as a way to help me focus and as theraphy. When school and life was hectic origami especially helped expand my world, bringing new friends, new joys and new perspective on life!
Now I love working with my hands, spending hours tweaking models or perfecting my techniques. Living in Toronto, Canada’s largest and most diverse city, I draw inspiration from my environment and in the many cultures I am immersed. I am always on the lookout to learn new skills and sometimes I dream of paper (lol). I love encouraging crafters and artists of all backgrounds and skill sets, because they in turn inspire me to keep going!
My ultimate dream is to have my own little boutique of paper works and eventually teach classes in my community and my city. Until then, watch this space and please enjoy the blog!
